HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Susan Davenport Smith on the occasion of her 60th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Susan Smith attended Northern Illinois University and the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy, and she was an honor student at both institutions; she completed pharmacy school in 1977 and worked as a Registered Clinical Pharmacist at the University of Illinois and Children's Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years, where she served as the first HIV/AIDS and first chemotherapy pharmacist; she retired in 2010; and

WHEREAS, While in pharmacy school, Susan Smith met Horace Smith, who was a medical student and they have been happily married since 1976; and

WHEREAS, Susan Smith has been a member of Apostolic Faith Church since 1976 and became First Lady in 1980 when her husband became Pastor; in addition to being the First Lady of Apostolic Faith Church, she is the church administrator, overseeing the day-to-day business of the 3,000-member church; and

WHEREAS, Together, the Smiths' humanitarian endeavors reach beyond the United States to support missions in all parts of Africa through their partnership with World Vision; Susan, along with her husband, travels extensively to Africa to view first-hand the devastation caused by the HIV/AIDS pandemic; under their leadership, Apostolic Faith Church provides resources for drilling wells to bring fresh water, which is the number one need in some areas; they also bring food, clothing, education, medical assistance, and other goods and services; the Smiths, along with their church, have sponsored over 2,000 children through World Vision; and

WHEREAS, Susan Smith's awards include La Rabida Children's Hospital 100 Big Hearts for Young Heroes and the Children's Memorial Hospital Earl J. Frederick Award for Outstanding Team; and

WHEREAS, Susan Smith and her husband reside in Chicago; they have 3 daughters, Lauren Elrod, Rachel Smith, and Emily Green; 3 sons-in-law, Brian Elrod, Patrick Green, and Courtney Horton; and 4 grandchildren, Lillian Elrod, Addison Elrod, Joshua Horton, and Caleb Green; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Susan Davenport Smith on the occasion of her 60th birthday and wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Susan Smith as an expression of our esteem and respect.
