HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives welcome His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias Sahle-Selassie on the occasion of his first visit to the Chicagoland area to speak at the DuSable Museum of African American History and the Chicago Southland on June 29, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Prince Ermias will deliver a presentation on the ancient biblical legacies of his historic family, including excerpts from a presentation made at the Library of Congress in 2010 entitled "The Origins of the Solomonic Dynasty and the Throne of David in Ethiopia"; and

WHEREAS, Prince Ermias' visit seeks to renew and establish the bonds of friendship and cooperation with civic, business, and religious leaders in the African-American community, much as his grandfather did before him; and

WHEREAS, Prince Ermias' visit occurs on the 60th anniversary of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I's 1954 visit to Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Continuing a legacy of service and humanitarian works, Prince Ermias was a recipient of the ISSA Silver Star Award for Outstanding Contributions to Strategic Progress Through Humanitarian Achievement by the International Strategic Studies Association for his work for Ethiopian refugees in Africa; and

WHEREAS, Prince Ermias serves on many charitable boards, foundations, and commissions, emblematic of a familial legacy of service; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we welcome His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias Sahle-Selassie and Princess Saba Kebede to the State of Illinois and wish them well in their future endeavors and future visits to the region; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias Sahle-Selassie as an expression of our respect and esteem.
