| 2 | | WHEREAS, Scott County was formed in 1839 and was named for |
| 3 | | one of the pioneer families that settled the area; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Scott County was once the home of Senator Stephen |
| 5 | | Douglas and honors him with a monument featuring his dying |
| 6 | | words that urged his family to "support the Constitution of the |
| 7 | | United States"; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Today, Scott County is home to numerous cities and |
| 9 | | villages, including Alsey, Manchester, Glasgow, Riggston, |
| 10 | | Merritt, Exeter, Bluffs, Oxville, Naples, and the county seat |
| 11 | | of Winchester; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Scott County's history is preserved through the |
| 13 | | efforts of such institutions as the Old School Museum in |
| 14 | | Winchester, the Naples Archeological District, and the |
| 15 | | Winchester Historic District; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Scott County continues to grow and develop through |
| 17 | | the efforts of local governments, citizens, and the Scott |
| 18 | | County Economic Development Corporation; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, This year, Scott County and its 5,222 residents in |
| 20 | | west-central Illinois are celebrating the county's 175th |
