| 2 | | WHEREAS, Jersey County was formed in 1839 out of a portion |
| 3 | | of neighboring Greene County and is located at the confluence |
| 4 | | of the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The county seat of Jerseyville, like the county |
| 6 | | itself, was named for the native state of many of the early |
| 7 | | settlers and is home to the historic 1893 courthouse; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The residents of Jersey County live on the |
| 9 | | county's abundant farms or in the communities of Jerseyville, |
| 10 | | Elsah, Grafton, Brighton, Fidelity, Fieldon, Otterville, Dow, |
| 11 | | Nutwood, Rosedale, Kemper, Chautauqua, Newbern, East Newbern, |
| 12 | | McClusky, Delhi, New Delhi, and Beltrees; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Today, Jersey County is home to Illinois' largest |
| 14 | | State park, Pere Marquette State Park, as well as the |
| 15 | | Mississippi River State Fish and Wildlife Area, a portion of |
| 16 | | the Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge, the majestic scenery |
| 17 | | of the Great River Road, and the Piasa Bird; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Jersey County has a growing population of 22,985 |
| 19 | | residents, an increase of more than 6% since the previous |
| 20 | | census; and |
