HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Jersey County was formed in 1839 out of a portion of neighboring Greene County and is located at the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers; and

WHEREAS, The county seat of Jerseyville, like the county itself, was named for the native state of many of the early settlers and is home to the historic 1893 courthouse; and

WHEREAS, The residents of Jersey County live on the county's abundant farms or in the communities of Jerseyville, Elsah, Grafton, Brighton, Fidelity, Fieldon, Otterville, Dow, Nutwood, Rosedale, Kemper, Chautauqua, Newbern, East Newbern, McClusky, Delhi, New Delhi, and Beltrees; and

WHEREAS, Today, Jersey County is home to Illinois' largest State park, Pere Marquette State Park, as well as the Mississippi River State Fish and Wildlife Area, a portion of the Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge, the majestic scenery of the Great River Road, and the Piasa Bird; and

WHEREAS, Jersey County has a growing population of 22,985 residents, an increase of more than 6% since the previous census; and

WHEREAS, Jersey County is home to such community events as the Jersey County Fair and the annual Jersey County Apple Festival in October; and

WHEREAS, Jersey County offers first-class educational institutions, the Jersey Community Hospital, civic and community groups, countless local businesses, and the Jersey County Business Association; and

WHEREAS, In 2014, Jersey County is celebrating its 175th anniversary; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the citizens of Jersey County on the occasion of the county's 175th anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Chairperson of the Jersey County Board.
