| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Martha |
| 4 | | Rogers, who passed away on June 24, 2014; and

| 5 | | WHEREAS, Martha Rogers was born on October 15, 1929 in St. |
| 6 | | Francisville, Louisiana; her parents were Mamie and Gordon |
| 7 | | Blacher; she completed her secondary education at McKinley High |
| 8 | | School in Baton Rouge; in the late 1940s, she relocated to |
| 9 | | Chicago, where she met and married her husband, Edward Rogers, |
| 10 | | Jr.; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Martha Rogers accepted Christ at an early age and |
| 12 | | united with Magnolia Baptist Church of St. Francisville, |
| 13 | | Louisiana; in later years, she relocated to Baton Rouge, |
| 14 | | Louisiana and became a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church |
| 15 | | in Scotlandville, Louisiana; she was a member of Lilydale |
| 16 | | Progressive Missionary Baptist Church over 52 years; she was |
| 17 | | active and served on such ministries as the Evergreen Club, the |
| 18 | | Shepard's Ministry, the Mother's Board, and Sunday school; in |
| 19 | | 2013, she was honored with the Pearl Award during Lilydale's |
| 20 | | centennial celebration; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Martha Rogers' love of elegance, style, and beauty |
| 22 | | led her to complete a degree in cosmetology; she went on to |
