HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Joliet Region Chamber 
4of Commerce & Industry on the occasion of the 100th anniversary 
5of its founding on February 24, 2014; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber was formed on February 24, 1914 
7with less than 25 members; today it has grown to more than 
81,200; it is one of the oldest chambers in the State, and is 
9the fourth largest chamber in the State behind Chicago, 
10Naperville, and Rockford; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The formation of the Joliet Chamber was initiated 
12by members of the Rotary Club of Joliet  who felt that the 
13efforts to attract businesses to locate in Joliet  were 
14scattered and disorganized, and had not produced the desired 
15results; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber was first known as the Commerce 
17Chamber; it changed its name to the  Commerce and Industrial 
18Association, and then the Joliet Chamber of Commerce; it 
19adopted its current name in 1962; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, These days, the Joliet Chamber's main focus is on 
21legislation and education at both the State and national

1levels; transportation  is a major issue for businesses in 
2Joliet and Will County, and educating area students on how to 
3develop a product or business and fund it is paramount to 
4producing the next generation of business leaders; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber is helmed by President and 
6Chief Executive Officer Russ Slinkard; he has been with the 
7organization for 18 years; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Joliet Chamber's mission remains to make 
9business more profitable and to improve the quality of life in 
10the community; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we congratulate the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & 
14Industry on its 100th anniversary, and wish them many more 
15years of success; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry 
18as an expression of our esteem and respect.
