| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the | ||||||
| 3 | members of the Illinois General Assembly wish to congratulate | ||||||
| 4 | the players and coaches of the Jackie Robinson West Little | ||||||
| 5 | League team on winning the Little League World Series national | ||||||
| 6 | title; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, After winning the Great Lakes Regional against | ||||||
| 8 | Indiana and an early loss to Las Vegas, the Jackie Robinson | ||||||
| 9 | West Little League team defeated Nevada 7-5 to secure victory | ||||||
| 10 | in the United States final on August 23, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Jackie Robinson West Little League team was | ||||||
| 12 | the first team from Chicago since North Roseland in 1967 to | ||||||
| 13 | qualify for the world championship and the 4th finalist from | ||||||
| 14 | the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The members of the Jackie Robinson West Little | ||||||
| 16 | League team are DJ Butler, Lawrence Noble, Jaheim Benton, Ed | ||||||
| 17 | Howard, Cameron Bufford, Brandon Green, Darion Radcliff, | ||||||
| 18 | Marquis Jackson, Joshua Houston, Eddie King, Prentiss Luster, | ||||||
| 19 | Pierce Jones, and Trey Hondras; the team's head coach is Darold | ||||||
| 20 | Butler and the assistant coaches are Jerry Houston and Jason | ||||||
| 21 | Little; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Through their hard work and great determination, | ||||||
| 2 | the players and coaches of the Jackie Robinson West Little | ||||||
| 3 | League team have brought pride to the citizens of the South | ||||||
| 4 | Side of Chicago, the City of Chicago at large, and the State of | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois; in a time of great violence and strife in the South | ||||||
| 6 | Side of Chicago, these kids have shown the world the great | ||||||
| 7 | things that can come from the South Side and its residents and | ||||||
| 8 | the value of courage and determination in achieving one's | ||||||
| 9 | dreams and overcoming adversity to become the National Little | ||||||
| 10 | League Champions; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we congratulate the players and coaches of the Jackie Robinson | ||||||
| 14 | West Little League team on winning the Little League World | ||||||
| 15 | Series national title and wish them continued success and | ||||||
| 16 | happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the Jackie Robinson West Little League team as a | ||||||
| 19 | symbol of our esteem and respect.
