HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the Brookfield Historical 
4Society as it celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Grossdale 
5Station; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The historic Grossdale Station was constructed by 
7real estate developer Samuel Eberly Gross in
1889; the station 
8was the village's first public building; in 1905, Grossdale 
9became Brookfield; and
  
 
  
10    WHEREAS, The Grossdale Station was used as a stop on the 
11Burlington line until it was set to be demolished and replaced

12in 1977, but through the efforts of the Brookfield Historical 
13Society, the station was purchased in 1981 and moved
across the 
14railroad tracks to its current home; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Countless hours of volunteer work went into 
16restoring the exterior of the Grossdale Station to its 1889 
17appearance,
and it is now one of the most distinctive historic 
18buildings in the area; it is the oldest surviving public 
19building in Brookfield and the oldest intact
station on the 
20Burlington commuter line; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Grossdale Station has been on the National

1Register of Historic Places since 1982; it now houses the 
2Brookfield Historical Society and a museum featuring
mementoes 
3and artifacts from Brookfield's past, including a second floor 
4station master's apartment; and
 
  
5    WHEREAS, The Brookfield Historical Society will
be hosting 
6a celebration event on October 26, 2014 at the Grossdale 
7Station; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we recognize the Brookfield Historical Society as it celebrates 
11the Grossdale Station's 125th anniversary; and be it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to the Brookfield Historical Society as a
symbol of 
14our esteem and respect.
