| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the Brookfield Historical |
| 4 | | Society as it celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Grossdale |
| 5 | | Station; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The historic Grossdale Station was constructed by |
| 7 | | real estate developer Samuel Eberly Gross in
1889; the station |
| 8 | | was the village's first public building; in 1905, Grossdale |
| 9 | | became Brookfield; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The Grossdale Station was used as a stop on the |
| 11 | | Burlington line until it was set to be demolished and replaced
|
| 12 | | in 1977, but through the efforts of the Brookfield Historical |
| 13 | | Society, the station was purchased in 1981 and moved
across the |
| 14 | | railroad tracks to its current home; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Countless hours of volunteer work went into |
| 16 | | restoring the exterior of the Grossdale Station to its 1889 |
| 17 | | appearance,
and it is now one of the most distinctive historic |
| 18 | | buildings in the area; it is the oldest surviving public |
| 19 | | building in Brookfield and the oldest intact
station on the |
| 20 | | Burlington commuter line; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, The Grossdale Station has been on the National |
