HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Lincoln-Way North 
4Marching Phoenix on winning the Class 4A State of Illinois 
5Marching Band Championship; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The 110 members of the Marching Phoenix claimed  
7the Class 4A championship in class competition on October 11, 
82014 at Illinois State University in Bloomington; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The Marching Phoenix also won Outstanding Music, 
10Visual Effect, and Crowd Appeal in class competition; in the 
11evening finals competition, in which all bands compete 
12regardless of class, the Marching Phoenix finished 5th overall; 
13the band also scored first in Visual General Effect out of the 
14finals group; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, A total of 40 bands from all over the State  
16participated; the bands competed in 6 classes, with 
17approximately 3,500 students participating; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The title of the Marching Phoenix's show was 
19"Returning Home"; the music featured "Appalachian Morning" by 
20Robert Sheldon, "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Ungar, "Althea" by 
21the Grateful Dead, and "American Gothic, mvt. III: Pitchfork"

2percussion was arranged by Kirk Hickman, drill design was by 
3Maney Thompson, and show design was by Alan Spaeth; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, The Marching Phoenix 2014 drum majors are Nora 
5Ward and Nikki Wiltjer; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we congratulate the Lincoln-Way North Marching Phoenix on 
9winning the Class 4A State of Illinois Marching Band 
10Championship and wish them many more years of success; and be 
11it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution is 
13presented to the Marching Phoenix as an expression of our 
14esteem and respect.
