HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Oak School in Community Consolidated School District 181 on receiving the 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award from the United States Department of Education for academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, Oak School is one of 287 public schools in the nation to receive the award in 2014, and one of only 13 in the State; it is the fifth of 9 schools in District 181 to receive the award, joining Clarendon Hills Middle School in 2009, Hinsdale Middle School in 2009, Madison School in 2009, and The Lane School in 2011; and

WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students' academic achievement; and

WHEREAS, The news of Oak School's award was shared with students and staff by Principal Martha Henrikson and former Principal Sean Walsh, who, according to Principal Henrikson, has fostered a culture of collaboration among teachers at the school; and

WHEREAS, The Oak School community celebrated receiving the award as part of their Walk to School Day on October 8, 2014, and, in November, an Oak School teacher will join leaders from recognized schools across the country in attending a ceremony in Washington, D.C.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Oak School in Community Consolidated School District 181 on receiving the 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award from the United States Department of Education and wish them many more years of academic success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Oak School as an expression of our esteem and respect.
