HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Elry Faulkner on the 
4occasion of his retirement as Johnson County Sheriff after 40 
5years; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Sheriff Faulkner is the longest-serving sheriff 
7in the State; he began his career in law enforcement as a 
8part-time officer for the Vienna Police Department in 1968; in 
91970, he joined the Johnson County Sheriff's Office; he 
10returned to the Vienna Police Department in 1973; in 1974, he 
11was elected Johnson County Sheriff; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Sheriff Faulkner was elected president of the 
13Illinois Sheriffs' Association  Southern Zone in 1986 and as 
14president of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association in 1994; he  was 
15sworn in as a member of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association 
16Executive Board in 1987 and has served on the Board ever since; 
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sheriff Faulkner was awarded the Medal of Valor in 
191994 by the Illinois Sheriffs' Association for his arrest of 
20and altercation with the escaped federal prisoner who shot him 
21in 1979; and

1    WHEREAS, Sheriff Faulkner has touched the lives of 
2thousands of people in Johnson County, which is evident by his 
3re-election every 4 years since 1974; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Elry Faulkner on his retirement as Johnson 
7County Sheriff and wish him the best in all his future 
8endeavors; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Sheriff Faulkner as an expression of our esteem 
11and respect.
