HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, After 24 years of dedicated, progressively responsible service to Illinois State University, Arlene Hosea is retiring from her current position as Director of Campus Dining Services and Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs for Diversity Education; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea was born and raised in the Bloomington area and was a graduate of Bloomington High School; she subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Home Economics from Illinois State University; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea successfully managed Illinois State University dining centers, providing food to more than 7,000 student residents with a staff of more than 180 civil service staff members and 1,100 student employees and balancing an operational budget of $24 million; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea openly and consistently shared her knowledge and expertise through her role as an adjunct faculty member, teaching Food Service Management and Quantity Foods from 2008 to 2010; and

WHEREAS, Under Arlene Hosea's leadership, Campus Dining Services became an integral part of the educational community, using food to encourage the gathering of diverse populations and to celebrate local, regional, national, and global perspectives; she oversaw the development and implementation of a long-range master plan, renovated 2 dining halls, opened new retail franchise dining locations, and redesigned the meal plan program; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea has been integral in the development and facilitation of campus-wide, ground-breaking programs in diversity, cultural competency, and social justice; and

WHEREAS, Beyond campus, Arlene Hosea served her community by participating in non-profit board governance for YWCA McLean County, The Baby Fold, and Special Olympics Illinois; she was also appointed to the Town of Normal's Human Relations Commission and Sustainability Subcommittee and the Advisory Council for the Multicultural Leadership Program; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea has been the recipient of numerous awards, including YWCA McLean County's Women of Distinction award, the Illinois State University Administrative Professionals Distinguished Service Award, the Neil R. Gamsky Quality of Student Life Award, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea is deeply rooted in her faith and lovingly tied with her large and growing family; she is also known for her great generosity and compassion; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Arlene Hosea on the occasion of her retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Arlene Hosea as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
