HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Margaret Louise Moore of Cairo, who passed away on November 14, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Moore was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 30, 1925 to Clarence, Sr. and Era Viola (nee Netherland) Shelton; she attended public schools in Mississippi, where she participated in girls track and, at one time, held the state records for broad jumping and one for one of the short track races; she graduated from Cairo Junior/Senior High School and earned Bachelor of Science, Masters, and Doctorate degees from Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale; she married James Frederick Moore on October 28, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana at Seventh & Camp Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Moore retired from the Harrisburg School System on June 1, 1994; as an employee of the Harrisburg Public Schools, she was able to secure a cable TV channel for the school at no cost; she secured the Texas Tie-in Distant Learning Program, also at no cost to the school; she had input on the location of the libraries at the Eastside and Westside Elementary Schools and she was involved with moving the public library from Church Street to its present location and updating the library from a collection of books to its current facility that includes computers, a children's area, and up-to-date services; she also was a part-time instructor at SIU; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Moore, along with her husband, grandchildren, and elderly parents traveled to all 50 states, all Canadian provinces, most Mexican states, Europe, China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Fiji Islands, and South America; she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Daughters of the American Revolution, and served several non-profit organizations to help others; she was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader and each year she had 4-H members successfully competing at the Illinois State Fair; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Moore was preceded in death by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Moore is survived by her husband of 70 years, James; her son, Forrest (Elizabeth) Moore; her daughters, Marsha (Al) Cole and Cheryl (Mark) Bradley; her 5 grandchildren; and her 6 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Margaret Louise Moore, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Margaret Moore as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
