Amends the Pertussis Vaccine Act. Provides that parents or guardians and immediate family members of a newborn child in a neonatal intensive care unit shall be offered an opportunity to receive the pertussis vaccine to minimize the chances that the disease will be communicated to the newborn child. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Pertussis Vaccine Act is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 4 as follows:
|

7 | | Sec. 4.
Every hospital in this State licensed under the |
8 | | Hospital
Licensing Act or an Act in relation to the founding |
9 | | and operation of the
University of Illinois Hospital, shall |
10 | | provide the parents or guardians of
each newborn child the |
11 | | pamphlet pursuant to Section 3 of this Act. Parents or |
12 | | guardians and immediate family members of a newborn child in a |
13 | | neonatal intensive care unit shall be offered an opportunity to |
14 | | receive the pertussis vaccine to minimize the chances that the |
15 | | disease will be communicated to the newborn child.
