SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are 
3proud to recognize those who distinguish themselves in society; 
4and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Stan Musial, a career player with the St. Louis 
6Cardinals and a Hall of Famer, hit .331 in a 22-season Major 
7League Baseball career; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Stan Musial passed away on January 19, 2013 at the 
9age of 92; and

  
 
10    WHEREAS, It is fitting that we honor the life and legacy of 
11Stan Musial by naming the new bridge carrying Interstate 70 
12over the Mississippi River in his honor; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 
15CONCURRING HEREIN, that we  designate the new bridge carrying 
16Interstate 70 over the Mississippi River as the Stan Musial 
17Memorial Bridge; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 
19is requested to erect at suitable locations on the Illinois 
20portion of the bridge, consistent with State and federal

1regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the 
2name of the Stan Musial Memorial Bridge; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That this resolution shall not become effective 
4until the State of Missouri designates, through legislative act 
5or otherwise, the portion of the bridge described in this 
6resolution which is owned and maintained by the State of 
7Missouri as the "Stan Musial Memorial Bridge"; and be it 
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
10presented to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of 
11Transportation and the family of Stan Musial.
