| 1 | SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
| 3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
| ||||||
| 4 | lives in the line of duty; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Sheriff John Lammy's last watch occurred on | ||||||
| 6 | September 25, 1881; he was killed in a shoot-out near Fox Creek | ||||||
| 7 | Bridge on Route 96 in between Kampsville and Mozier; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Marshal Charles B. Rose's last watch occurred on | ||||||
| 9 | October 14, 1911; he was killed in Kampsville while attempting | ||||||
| 10 | to arrest William Carter and was fatally stabbed by, Elmer | ||||||
| 11 | Carter, the suspects brother; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Illinois State Trooper George L. Fredrickson's | ||||||
| 13 | last watch occurred on September 1, 1947; he died in his | ||||||
| 14 | attempt to save a motorcyclist on Labor Day, 2 miles west of | ||||||
| 15 | Grafton near the Brussels Illinois State Ferry; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Chief Deputy Sheriff Brian K. Gibbons's last watch | ||||||
| 17 | was on July 11, 2006 after having his squad car struck by a | ||||||
| 18 | drunk driver 2 days prior; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, These fallen
heroes deserve to be remembered by | ||||||
| 20 | the State of Illinois for making the ultimate sacrifice; | ||||||

| 1 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
| 4 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recognize Sheriff John Lammy, | ||||||
| 5 | Marshal Charles B. Rose, Illinois State Trooper George L. | ||||||
| 6 | Frederickson, and Chief Deputy Sheriff Brian K. Gibbons; and be | ||||||
| 7 | it further | ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, That we designate Route 96 between Kampsville and | ||||||
| 9 | Mozier as the "Sheriff John Lammy Memorial Highway"; and be it | ||||||
| 10 | further | ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That we designate the Illinois State Kampsville | ||||||
| 12 | Ferry Landing, on both the Kampsville and Eldred sides of the | ||||||
| 13 | river, as the "Kampsville Marshal Charles B. Rose Memorial | ||||||
| 14 | Landing"; and be it further | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That we designate a stretch of Route 100 from | ||||||
| 16 | Grafton to Pere Marquette State Park as the "Illinois State | ||||||
| 17 | Trooper George L. Fredrickson Memorial Highway"; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further | ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the naming of Route 100 as it | ||||||
| 20 | passes through Calhoun County as the "Chief Deputy Brian K | ||||||
| 21 | Gibbons Memorial Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
| ||||||
| 2 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| ||||||
| 3 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| ||||||
| 4 | giving notice of the these names.
