SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General

3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals

4who have served our country; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, At one time or another during World War II, 7 of 
6the Powell Brothers of Greene County served in either the 
7European, Russian, or Japanese theaters; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The names of the Powell brothers are Adrian, 
9Arthur, Earl, Everett, Fred, George, and Max; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, A speech was made on the floor of the United 
11States Senate on May 12, 2014 which commended the Powell 
12brothers and their families for their sacrifices; the Village 
13of Hillview, which was the family's homestead, erected a 
14memorial flag pole in June of 1988; and
  
 
  
15    WHEREAS, The story of the Powell brothers  and their 
16commitment to their country is remarkable and unprecedented; 
17therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 
20CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Route 67 as it passes

1through Greene County as the "Powell Brothers Memorial 
2Highway"; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation

4is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with

5State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs

6giving notice of the name "Powell Brothers Memorial Highway"; 
7and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be

9delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of

10Transportation, and the family of the Powell Brothers.
