SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of  Robert M. Magnuson; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Robert Magnuson earned his degree from Lake Forest 
5College and an MBA from Harvard Business School; after working 
6for the Zenith Radio Corporation for a few years, he joined 
7Elmhurst Memorial Hospital as a Controller and Assistant 
8Administrator until he was named President and CEO of the 
9hospital in 1966; he served in that capacity until his 
10retirement in 1992; following his retirement, he remained 
11involved with the hospital by serving as a trustee; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Robert Magnuson served as a board member, 
13director, or officer of numerous business and healthcare 
14associations, including the Illinois Hospital Association, the 
15Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, and the Chicago 
16Hospital Council; he served as the director of Elmhurst Federal 
17Savings from 1971 to 1993 and as director of First Colonial - 
18York State Bank from 1993 to 1996; he also served as a faculty 
19preceptor for the health sciences administration programs at 
20both the University of Chicago and Northwestern University; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, Robert Magnuson was the recipient of numerous 
22honors; in 1991, he was honored by the dedication of the $32

1million building addition to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, named 
2the Robert M. Magnuson Pavilion; in 1992, he was named an 
3Outstanding Business Leader by the Oak Brook Jaycees; in 1997, 
4the Elmhunt Chamber of Commerce and Industry inducted him into 
5its Civic Hall of Fame; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Magnuson was an active member of the 
7Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert Magnuson was the beloved husband of Diane; 
9the father of Thomas, Dana (Robert) Padgett, Susan (James) 
10Benes, Cheryl LeDuc, and Christine (Gregory) Raber; the 
11grandfather of Meghan, Lauren, Grant, Nicole, Andrea, and 
12Alexandra; the dear son of the late Martin D. and Adena 
13Magnuson; and the brother of Jane (the late Clarence) Zelie; 
14therefore, be it
  
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
17his family and friends, the passing of Robert M. Magnuson; and 
18be it further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to the family of Robert Magnuson as an expression of 
21our sympathy.
