SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul W. Fromer of Downers Grove, who passed away on December 8, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Paul Fromer was born and raised in Elmira, New York; after earning his undergraduate degree at Syracuse University, he went on to pursue graduate studies in chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, but soon found himself called to seminary; he enrolled at the nearby Fuller Theological Seminary, where he eventually earned a master's degree; and

WHEREAS, During college, Paul Fromer became involved with the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship; after leaving Fuller in 1955, he worked as an InterVarsity staff worker on campuses in California, Arizona, and Nevada; in 1960, he moved to the Chicago area to become the editor of HIS magazine, a Christian publication for college students; in 1971, he left the magazine and joined Wheaton College as an English professor the following year; he also served as the faculty adviser to Wheaton's student newspaper, the Wheaton Record; after retiring from Wheaton in 1998, Mr. Fromer continued to research and write and led Bible studies; and

WHEREAS, Paul Fromer worked as a deputy editor at Christianity Today magazine; he also edited several of evangelist Billy Graham's books; and

WHEREAS, Paul Fromer is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret; his sons, Joel and David; his daughter, Ruth Fox; and his 3 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Paul W. Fromer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Fromer as an expression of our sympathy.
