2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Walter C. Milton of Staunton, formerly of |
4 | | Granite City, who passed away on January 18, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Walter Milton was born on June 23, 1933, in |
6 | | Stewart County, Tennessee, to Herbert and Maggie (Clinard) |
7 | | Milton; he received his early education in Stewart County and |
8 | | was in the first graduating class of Southern Illinois |
9 | | University-Edwardsville; he married Peggy Hawk; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Walter Milton retired as vice-president and |
11 | | general manager of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in Alton; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Walter Milton served as the chairman of the |
14 | | Granite City Housing Authority and was a member of the board of |
15 | | directors for 24 years; he served as legislative aide to |
16 | | Senator Sam Vadalabene of the 56th district for 12 years; he |
17 | | was active on the Great River Road's Committee's Recreation |
18 | | local I.L.D.O.T. Planning Commission, a former member of the |
19 | | board of directors and retired chairman of the board of |
20 | | Guardian Savings Bank, a former member of the Belleville Area |
21 | | College G.C. Campus, a member of the advisory board of the |
22 | | Granite City School District, and the Granite City Park |

1 | | District Board; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Walter Milton served as a Democratic Precinct |
3 | | Committeeman, G.C. 22, Granite City Board of Alderman Ward 6, |
4 | | Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce member for 30 years and chairman |
5 | | of its Law Enforcement Committee; he was a former member and |
6 | | former president of the Rotary Club of Granite City, Paul |
7 | | Harris Fellow, member of the Illinois Bottlers Association, and |
8 | | the Cahokia Mounds Council; he co-sponsored the formation of |
9 | | the D.A.R.E. program for the Granite City School District No.9; |
10 | | in 1975 and 1998, he received the citizen of the year award |
11 | | from the Granite City Park District; he has also received the |
12 | | Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award and the |
13 | | Belleville Area College 15 Great Men Award; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Walter Milton was preceded in death by his |
15 | | parents; his wife, Peggy; his daughter, Patricia A. Milton; his |
16 | | grandson, Walter Milton III; his great-grandson, Aaron |
17 | | Hergert; his brothers, James, Herbert Jr., and Charles K. |
18 | | Milton; and his sisters, Sallie Kirksey, Marcia Pigg, and |
19 | | Lucille Ferguson; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Walter Milton is survived by his sons, Walter C. |
21 | | Milton Jr. and Brett (Julie) Milton; his daughters, Mary |
22 | | (Craig) Rydgig and Anita (Dwayne) Winchell; his grandchildren, |
23 | | Thomasina Hergert, Kyle and Cody Milton, Michelle, Clayton, and |

1 | | Christopher Rydgig, Jason and Adam Winchell, Crystal Clark, |
2 | | Brittany, Jacob, and Caden Milton; his great-grandchildren, |

4 | | Layla and Carter Rydgig; his brothers and sisters-in-laws; and |
5 | | many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
8 | | Walter Milton, and we extend our sincere condolences to his |
9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
10 | | further

11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 | | presented to the family of Walter Milton as an expression of |
13 | | our deepest sympathy.
