2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Joseph Nelson Cook Sr. of Channahon, who |
4 | | passed away on January 18, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was born on March 7, 1931, in |
6 | | Buckingham; his parents were William J. and Dorothy J. Cook; |
7 | | and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a lifelong resident of |
9 | | Channahon and a graduate of the last class of Channahon High |
10 | | School; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a proud American and served |
12 | | his country with distinction as a member of the United States |
13 | | Army 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean War; during his |
14 | | service, he was listed as missing in action for over 121 days |
15 | | behind enemy lines and was one of the few men to return home |
16 | | from Task Force Crombez; he was the recipient of the Silver |
17 | | Star, five Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts for his |
18 | | meritorious service; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a proud member of the Will |
20 | | County Carpenters Union Local #174 and retired after many years |
21 | | of service; he was also a former Park Ranger and a caretaker of |

1 | | the McKinley Woods Forest Preserve; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a devoted Cubs fan; he enjoyed |
3 | | fishing and hunting with his son, gardening, and carving duck |
4 | | decoys; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was a lifetime member of the DAV |
6 | | and the Grundy County Rod and Gun Club; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. was preceded in death by his |
8 | | grandson, Benjamin Nephi Cook-Klossing; his parents; his |
9 | | beloved brother, Wesley D. Cook; and his lifelong best friend, |
10 | | Robert "Chiv" Chiovatero; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Cook Sr. is survived by his dearly loved |
12 | | wife of 48 years, Mary Alice Cook; his son and namesake, |
13 | | Channahon Mayor Joseph N. Cook, Jr. (Laurie Pillion); his |
14 | | devoted daughter, Gloria L. (Scott) Cook-Richardson; his |
15 | | special son, James Tyler Cook; his grandson, Alexander J. |
16 | | Cook-Klossing; his granddaughter, Jessica M. Cook-Klossing; |
17 | | his siblings, Bill (Dorothy) Cook, Robert (Gladys) Cook, and |
18 | | Beverly Keast; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends; |
