SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Nearly 13 million people live in the great State 
3of Illinois; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has never had a 
5comprehensive statewide reading program for all ages; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, A key contributor to the literacy effort within 
7the State of Illinois is the Illinois Reading Council; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Illinois Reading Council has taken it upon 
9itself to organize a statewide program, to be known as Illinois 
10Reads; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Illinois Reads will promote reading for all 
12Illinois citizens, beginning with read-aloud books for babies 
13to read with and books for senior citizens; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Illinois Reads will feature authors with ties to 
15the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wholeheartedly 
18support the goals of the Illinois Reads program and urge 
19citizens throughout the State to become involved as Illinois

1Reads Ambassadors to support the Illinois Reading Council's 
2efforts to promote literacy; and be it further
  
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
4presented to the Illinois Reading Council.
