SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jack Allen Tosh of Elmhurst, who passed
4away on February 11, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Tosh was born in Los Angeles, California; he
6grew up in Decatur and played basketball, football, and
7baseball at Decatur High School; he was courted by the Chicago
8Cubs but decided to attend college; he earned an education
9degree from Northwestern University, where he played
10basketball and was captain of the baseball team; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After 2 years in the Marines, Jack Tosh began
12teaching at Evanston Township High School and coached several
13sports; he received a master's degree in education
14administration from Northwestern and then joined DeKalb High
15School in 1968; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jack Tosh coached high school boys basketball in
17DeKalb and as head coach took the team to a 4th-place finish in
18the State tournament; he was athletic director for many years
19at York High School in Elmhurst, beginning in the mid-1970s;
20after his retirement from York H.S. in 1990, the school named
21its holiday basketball tournament in his honor; and

1    WHEREAS, In 1989, Jack Tosh was inducted into the Illinois
2Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and in 2001, the Illinois
3Basketball Coaches Association, which was co-founded by him,
4awarded him the Tom "Buzzy" O'Connor award; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Tosh is survived by his wife of 59 years,
6Benette "Bee"; his children, Stephen (Diane) Tosh, Lisa (Clay)
7Parcells, and Linda Tosh; his grandchildren, Brett (Diana),
8Lauren (Jason), Courtney, Sarah, Nicholas, Logan, and Katrina;
9his brother, David (Dina) Tosh; and his pets, Seven and Addy;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Jack Tosh, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family,
14friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Jack Tosh as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
