SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Hill, who passed away on March 15, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hill was born on November 8, 1936, in Cherokee County, Oklahoma; her parents were Emmett and Lennie Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hill graduated from East Aurora High School in 1954; she subsequently earned her bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University in 1977 and her master's degree in public affairs from Northern Illinois University in 1979; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hill retired from Fermilab in 1997, after nearly 20 years of employment; after her retirement, she worked as a GED teacher at Waubonsee Community College; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hill was active in various organizations in the Aurora community; she was a former member of the Main Baptist Choir under the pastorate of the late Rev. Robert Wesby; she was one of the 11 founding members of Progressive Baptist Church; she was also a member and a trustee emeritus at St. John AME Church; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hill was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Kim Lee Anderson and Todd Clinton Smith; her sister, Doreatha Warden; and her brother, Joe Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hill is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Herbert Hill; her son, Gregory A. Hill; her grandchildren, Nichole K. (Robert) Allen, Rahshawn C. Lyles (I'esha Saxon), Taj C. (Bree) Smith, and LaShonda Holden; her great-grandchildren, Mario, Mekai, and Mya Ann Lyles, Jordan and Ashton Allen, Jacob Smith, and Senai Saxon; her brothers, Robert Lee Johnson and Emmitt Johnson; and her many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mary Hill; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Hill as an expression of our sympathy.
