SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph M. Berardi of Pekin, who passed
4away on March 25, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi was born on January 10, 1923, in
6Pekin, to Peter and Lucia (Strada) Berardi; he married
7Henrietta "Penny" Woost on November 3, 1945, in Springfield; he
8later married Shirley (Eschmeyer) Ziebold on June 21, 2008, in
9Pekin; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi served in the U.S. Army during
11World War II; he worked as a police officer in Pekin for 20
12years before retiring; he was police chief in Minier and later
13worked for the State of Illinois, retiring in 1974; he was
14elected president of the Minier Village Board in 1984 and he
15served on the Tazwell County Board for 18 years; he and his
16wife owned and operated Peek-In-Ceramics; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi was a life member and served as
18past commander of the Roy L. King VFW Post 1232 in Pekin, was a
19life and 56-year member of Empire Masonic Lodge 126, AF&AM, a
20member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Peoria, and
21a 40-year member of Mohammed Temple, Shrine; he was a member of
22St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin and an avid St. Louis

1Cardinals fan; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi was preceded in death by his
3parents; his first wife, Henrietta; his second wife, Shirley;
4and his 2 brothers and 2 sisters; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi is survived by his daughter, Karen
6(John) Fisher; his sons, Richard (Gloria Gay) Berardi and Leo
7(Karen) Berardi; his sister, Adele Trettenero; his 7
8grandchildren; his 8 great-grandchildren; and one
9great-great-granddaughter; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Joseph Berardi, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Joseph Berardi as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
