SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to honor 
3the memory of Chicago police officer Detective William J. 
4Murphy; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Detective William Murphy lost his life in the line 
6of duty on August 15, 1955; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Detective William Murphy was shot and killed at 
8the Roosevelt Road elevated platform while arresting a robbery 
9suspect; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Detective William Murphy was assigned to the 
11Central District at 11th and State in Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Detective William Murphy left behind a wife, 
13Shirley Murphy; 2 daughters, Christine and Nancy; and several 
14other extended family members; and
 
15    WHEREAS, We recognize and honor the 58th anniversary of 
16Detective William Murphy's death; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Time never diminishes respect for those who served 
18to protect; and

1    WHEREAS, Detective William Murphy's sacrifice is not 
2forgotten today; and
  
 
  
3    WHEREAS, Detective William Murphy continues to leave a 
4legacy and still inspires courage, honesty, and strength to 
5those he left behind; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we 
7must recognize those who came before; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we remember and honor 
10the memory of Detective William Murphy and will never forget 
11the sacrifice he made; and be it further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to the family of Detective William Murphy.
