2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Sholom I. Gliksman, who passed away on |
4 | | May 16, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was born on May 18, 1943, in |
6 | | Chicago, and was raised in Detroit; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was an alumnus of the Ida Crown |
8 | | Jewish Academy, the Chicago Theological Seminary, Roosevelt |
9 | | University, Loyola University, and Syracuse University; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman served as a chaplain during the |
11 | | Vietnam War and was stationed in Nha Trang; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman worked most of his life for |
13 | | nonprofit and government organizations, including the United |
14 | | Jewish Appeal, the Northern Illinois Planning Commission, and |
15 | | as a budget analyst for Cook County; after his retirement, he |
16 | | participated in Osher Lifelong Learning in Chicago, the PLATO |
17 | | program in Madison, and Limmud of Chicago as both a student and |
18 | | teacher; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman enjoyed spirited discussions |
20 | | about politics, history, religion, science, science fiction, |
|

1 | | and sports; he also enjoyed reading, collecting, nature, bird |
2 | | watching, and traveling; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was a board member of Chicago |
4 | | Audubon, Oak Park Temple, and the Jewish Reconstructionist |
5 | | Congregation in Evanston; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman was preceded in death by his |
7 | | father, HaRav Shlomo HaCohen Gliksman; his mother, Anna |
8 | | Robinson; his brothers, Harry and Rabbi Mordechai Gliksman; and |
9 | | his sisters, Mrs. Sonya Gliksman Feigenbaum and Paula Gliksman; |
10 | | and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Sholom Gliksman is survived by his wife of 13 |
12 | | years, Carol Brumer Gliksman; his brother, Rabbi Yosef Nadler; |
13 | | his in-laws, sisters-in-law, and their families; and his many |
14 | | beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors |
15 | | across the world; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
18 | | his family and friends, the passing of Sholom I. Gliksman; and |
19 | | be it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to the family of Sholom Gliksman as an expression of |
