SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Martha M. Berg of North Aurora, who
4passed away on June 27, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martha Berg was born on April 8, 1947, in
6Frankfort, Kentucky; her parents were James H. and Martha
7Maddox; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Martha Berg graduated from Sullivan Indiana High
9School in 1965; she subsequently attended Indiana State
10University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in
11elementary education in 1968 and completed her master's degree
12in elementary education in 1971; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Martha Berg served as an educator for 35 years;
14she spent her first 26 years at Sherrard Elementary in Sherrard
15and her last 9 years in education were spent at East Aurora
16Illinois School District 131; after retiring in 2005, she
17carried her love of teaching into assisting future teachers at
18Olivet Nazarene University, Aurora University, and the
19National Head Start Family Literacy Center; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Martha Berg was an active member of her community;
21she served in numerous organizations, including the Child

1Welfare Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, and P.E.O.; she was a
2member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was
3involved in the Chancel Choir and 10-Fold Contemporary
4Christian Group and served as a deacon and member of various
5committees; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Martha Berg is survived by her loving husband of
717 years, Richard K. "Dick" Berg Jr.; her children, Laura
8(Eric) Kies, Tyler (Brooke) Knowles, Rick (Audra) Berg, and
9Diane (Brian) Gillaspie; her grandchildren, Maddox and Kennon
10Kies, Carter and Reid Knowles, Jackson and Jillian Berg, and
11Hannah Gillaspie; and her special brothers, Jay (Carolyn)
12Maddox and Bill Maddox; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15her family and friends, the passing of Martha M. Berg; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Martha Berg as an expression of our
19sympathy.
