SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marvin Thomas Everett of Peoria, who passed away on July 23, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was born on December 4, 1929; his parents were Earl W. and Margaret F. (Peplow) Everett; he married Phyllis Jean Ricks on January 7, 1950; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Everett retired from Caterpillar after 38 years of dedicated service; he subsequently spent most of his retired life serving his community; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was a proud member of United Auto Workers Local 974, where he served as a chief steward and skilled trades chairman; he served as a volunteer firefighter for Richwoods Township for 13 years, achieving the rank of assistant fire chief, and served as a volunteer firefighter at the Caterpillar Tech Center for 23 years; he was also a founding member of Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April in Peoria in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the President's Call to Service Award in 2006, the Ray A. Neuman Award as Tri-County Citizen of the Year in 2010, the Christmas in April Hearts and Hammer Award in 1996, and the Eugene G. Moore Award for Community Service in 2002; he was also honored to be the grand marshal of the Peoria Labor Day Parade in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Everett was preceded in death by his brothers, John Everett, Sr. and Thomas Everett, and his sisters, Shirley Maston, Margaret Wallman, and Geraldine Silverman; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Everett is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his children, Barbara Jean (Robert) Knock, Michael Thomas (Ginny) Everett, Karen Joyce Everett, James Arthur (Maura) Everett, and Teresa Ann (Tim) Schierer; his brothers and sisters, Phyllis C. (Ronald) Veiria, Valorie J. Everett, Earlene (Raymond) Martens, Mary K. Powers, Betty L. (Robert) Bohm, William (Ruby) Everett, and Robert (Nancy) Everett; his grandchildren, Teresa (Phillip) Portillo, Eric Knock, Michael (Laura) Everett, Jennifer Everett, Christopher (Erin) Everett, Lacey (Matt) Everett, and Kelli (Andrew) Phelps; and his great-grandchildren, Nicole Portillo, Antonio Portillo, Erika Knock, Morgan McClallen, Mariah McClallen, and Rilee Everett; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Marvin Thomas Everett; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marvin Everett as an expression of our sympathy.
