| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Bruce Miller Macfarlane of Lake Forest, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on July 15, 2013; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was born on November 28, 1919 in | ||||||
| 6 | Chicago to Alice and Wilbert E. Macfarlane; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was a graduate of the Chicago | ||||||
| 8 | Latin School and the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania; he | ||||||
| 9 | graduated from Princeton University with the class of 1942; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, After graduation, Bruce Macfarlane joined the | ||||||
| 11 | United States Navy during World War II; he served with pride as | ||||||
| 12 | a Patrol Torpedo "PT" Boat Captain (Squadrons 14, 18, and 39) | ||||||
| 13 | from 1942 to 1946; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane worked as a news anchor for WGN | ||||||
| 15 | Radio and WGN-TV for more than 10 years; in 1958, he joined | ||||||
| 16 | Bronson, Dennehy and Ulseth Insurance Company, which was | ||||||
| 17 | subsequently acquired by the Fred S. James Agency; he remained | ||||||
| 18 | in his position until 1984, when he entered real estate sales, | ||||||
| 19 | where he remained until his retirement in 2001; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane served the City of Lake Forest | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | faithfully as head of the City Council's Caucus Committee and | ||||||
| 2 | as a Ward Chairman, Alderman, and Mayor; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was an avid athlete who | ||||||
| 4 | particularly loved golf; he won the Onwentsia Club Championship | ||||||
| 5 | in 1958 and 1983 and travelled to Eleuthera in the Bahamas, | ||||||
| 6 | California, and Scotland to play golf with his friends; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Bruce Macfarlane was the beloved husband of 63 | ||||||
| 8 | years to Barbara King Macfarlane; the loving father of David B. | ||||||
| 9 | (Vicky) Macfarlane and the late Robert A. (Clarene) Macfarlane; | ||||||
| 10 | the adored grandfather of Amanda and Robert B. Macfarlane and | ||||||
| 11 | Julie (Rick) Macfarlane Hild; the great-grandfather of Bronwyn | ||||||
| 12 | Macfarlane and Lily Anna Hild; and the brother of the late | ||||||
| 13 | Frederic L. Macfarlane; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
| 16 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Bruce Miller | ||||||
| 17 | Macfarlane; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of Bruce Macfarlane as an expression of | ||||||
| 20 | our sympathy.
