2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of former Glen Ellyn Village President |
4 | | Constance "Connie" (nee Miller) Zimmermann, who passed away on |
5 | | June 27, 2013; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was born in New Rochelle, New |
7 | | York; she graduated from Sarasota High School in 1949 and |
8 | | earned her degree in political science from Florida State |
9 | | University in 1954, where she belonged to Pi Sigma Alpha, the |
10 | | National Political Science Honor Society; she married Richard |
11 | | M. Zimmermann in Frankfurt, Germany in 1954; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann and her husband settled in |
13 | | Glen Ellyn in 1959 and she became involved in League of Women |
14 | | Voters activities; she was elected Glen Ellyn's first female |
15 | | village president in 1973, serving in that capacity until 1977; |
16 | | she oversaw various redevelopment and expansion efforts during |
17 | | her time in office; in 1984, she was elected to the DuPage |
18 | | County Board; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was active in civic and |
20 | | community organizations in Glen Ellyn and DuPage County; she |
21 | | served on the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission, the |
22 | | DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, the DuPage County Board, |

1 | | the Illinois Municipal League, the Board of Central DuPage |
2 | | Hospital, the Mental Health Association of DuPage, the Portage |
3 | | Lake Garden Club, the Portage Lake Association, and the Portage |
4 | | Lake Yacht Club; she also founded a local chapter of the League |
5 | | of Women Voters; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was recognized for her |
7 | | community involvement in 1987 when the Young Women's Christian |
8 | | Association named her as one of the group's Outstanding Women |
9 | | Leaders of DuPage County; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann enjoyed traveling the world |
11 | | with her husband, reading, playing tennis, skiing, golfing, |
12 | | swimming, and boating; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was preceded in death by her |
14 | | husband, Richard; her parents; and one son; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann is survived by her daughter, |
16 | | Vivian Bennett; her son, Robert; her brother, James L. Miller, |
17 | | Jr.; and her sister, Vivian Parrott; therefore, be it
|
18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
20 | | Constance "Connie" Zimmermann, and extend our sincere |
21 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
