SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of former Glen Ellyn Village President
4Constance "Connie" (nee Miller) Zimmermann, who passed away on
5June 27, 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was born in New Rochelle, New
7York; she graduated from Sarasota High School in 1949 and
8earned her degree in political science from Florida State
9University in 1954, where she belonged to Pi Sigma Alpha, the
10National Political Science Honor Society; she married Richard
11M. Zimmermann in Frankfurt, Germany in 1954; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann and her husband settled in
13Glen Ellyn in 1959 and she became involved in League of Women
14Voters activities; she was elected Glen Ellyn's first female
15village president in 1973, serving in that capacity until 1977;
16she oversaw various redevelopment and expansion efforts during
17her time in office; in 1984, she was elected to the DuPage
18County Board; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was active in civic and
20community organizations in Glen Ellyn and DuPage County; she
21served on the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission, the
22DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, the DuPage County Board,

1the Illinois Municipal League, the Board of Central DuPage
2Hospital, the Mental Health Association of DuPage, the Portage
3Lake Garden Club, the Portage Lake Association, and the Portage
4Lake Yacht Club; she also founded a local chapter of the League
5of Women Voters; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was recognized for her
7community involvement in 1987 when the Young Women's Christian
8Association named her as one of the group's Outstanding Women
9Leaders of DuPage County; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann enjoyed traveling the world
11with her husband, reading, playing tennis, skiing, golfing,
12swimming, and boating; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann was preceded in death by her
14husband, Richard; her parents; and one son; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Constance Zimmermann is survived by her daughter,
16Vivian Bennett; her son, Robert; her brother, James L. Miller,
17Jr.; and her sister, Vivian Parrott; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Constance "Connie" Zimmermann, and extend our sincere
21condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
