2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of David Anthony Bozeman, Sr., who passed |
4 | | away on July 7, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. attended Dunbar Elementary |
6 | | School and Clark Junior High School before graduating from East |
7 | | St. Louis Senior High School in 1975; he subsequently enrolled |
8 | | at Southern Illinois University in the fall of 1975; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, As a child, David Bozeman, Sr. worked at Bozeman's |
10 | | Confectionery for his parents until they sold the confectionery |
11 | | in 1977; he later worked for the United States Postal Service |
12 | | from November 18, 1978 to October 17, 2003; he served as |
13 | | postmaster of the Caseyville Post Office from June 2, 1990 |
14 | | until his retirement and as postmaster of the Godfrey Post |
15 | | Office from February 20, 1993 until his retirement; while |
16 | | employed at the Postal Service, he received many service |
17 | | awards; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, In 2012, David Bozeman, Sr. served as the chair |
19 | | for the group of Illinois volunteers that built the National |
20 | | Baptist Congress Habitat for Humanity Home in St. Louis, |
21 | | Missouri; after Hurricane Katrina, he recruited Illinois |
22 | | Laymen to go to Louisiana and hosted annual "Shepherd vs. |

1 | | Sheep" basketball games to raise funds for the Second Chance |
2 | | Shelter; he also served on the board of New Salem Place, a Home |
3 | | for Seniors; and

4 | | WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. served as president of the New |
5 | | Salem District Laymen Auxiliary from 2000 to 2008 and as |
6 | | president of the Illinois State Baptist General Laymen's |
7 | | Ministry; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. was preceded in death by his |
9 | | parents, Charles and Corine Bozeman, Sr.; his brother, Charles |
10 | | Leach; his sister, Denise Bozeman; and his mother-in-law, |
11 | | Pearline Haire; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. is survived by his wife, |
13 | | Yolanda; his sons, David A. Bozeman, Jr., and Rev. Michael |
14 | | (Nia) Owens; his grandchildren, Gavin and Micah; his brother, |
15 | | Charles (Carlon) Bozeman, Jr.; his sisters, Coretta Bozeman, |
16 | | Dr. Gloria B. (Brent) Herndon, O. Jean Pittman, Barbara |
17 | | (Alonzo) Monigan, Charlene Stamps, and Trueal Wheeler; his |
18 | | stepbrothers, Jerry (Luetricha) Wood and Robert (Agnes) Wood; |
19 | | his brother-in-law, Johnnie (Arleatha) Haire; his |
20 | | god-children, Brittany Wince, Reginald Wince II, Isaiah |
21 | | Williams, and Symone Griffin; his special parents, Rev. and |
22 | | Mrs. Norman E. Owens; his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; |

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
4 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of David Anthony Bozeman, |
5 | | Sr.; and be it further
|
6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of David Bozeman, Sr. as an expression |
8 | | of our sympathy.
