SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ruth "Grandma" Jones, who passed away on October 10, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Jones was born on March 17, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama to the Reverend Archie and Carrie Manning; she married Charles Jones, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Jones was a homemaker and loved caring for her children and grandchildren; eventually she became the "neighborhood nanny" and cared for numerous children from the community while their parents went to work and school; she had such an affect that the Grandma Jones Daycare Centers I and III in Calumet City now proudly bear her name in dedication; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Jones joined the Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church in 1942 and was a member for over 25 years; she served the church in a variety of positions including the choir, nurse's board, church secretary, and trustee; she later joined New Shining Light Baptist Church and served there for 10 years; she then joined Fountain of Life Church of Christ and served in the ministry as President of the Pastor's Aide Ministry; she received her Evangelist License and was appointed Church Mother, serving faithfully at the Fountain of Life Church of God in Christ for over 30 years; in 2010, she joined Devine Word Ministries and was appointed to the Mother's Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Jones was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters; her brothers; and her eldest son; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Jones is survived by her son, Rogers (Wendy); her daughter, Betty; her grandchildren, Chauncey (Lydia), Cherae (Reginald), Cordell (Crystal) Drake, Bryce, Karol, and Richard; her great-grandchildren, Chaundia, Kennedy, Earehc', Jacob, Maurice, Ciara, Phylicia, Raymond, Karen, and London; her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her close friends, Jackie Jones and Fredonia Bey; and a host of other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ruth "Grandma" Jones, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ruth Jones as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
