SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, In 1963, the Illinois Board of Higher Education 
3established the Faculty Advisory
Council to offer information 
4and assistance from the perspective of Illinois' higher 
5education faculty; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty 
7Advisory Council represents faculty in all sectors of higher 
8education
in the State of Illinois, including public 
9universities, community colleges, and private institutions of 
10higher
learning; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty 
12Advisory Council has served as a useful and respected resource 
13for
college faculty participating in discussions with 
14legislators, the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the

15Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois Community 
16College Board, and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission 
17in addressing
issues of interest to higher education; and

  
 
18    WHEREAS, The Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty 
19Advisory Council has discussed issues of critical importance,

20including, but not limited to, higher education's contribution 
21to the State's economic development and
value as a public good, 
22the profound role faculty play in student learning and the

1collegiate experience,
support for student transfers between 
2institutions, the evolution of online education, access to

3affordable higher education, and the essential role of faculty 
4in the governance of higher education
institutions, especially 
5in matters concerning academic freedom and tenure; therefore, 
6be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank the Faculty 
9Advisory Council for its long and trusted service to the 
10citizens of the
State of Illinois, especially to those who have 
11been educated at Illinois' college and universities, and

12designate the date of December 13, 2013 as Illinois Board of 
13Higher Education Faculty Advisory Council
Day in the State of 
14Illinois; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty 
17Advisory Council as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
