SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eric Nefstead of Winnebago, who passed away on November 2, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead was born on September 9, 1943 in Rochelle; he grew up on a farm on the edge of Steward and graduated from Rochelle Township High School; he attended the University of Illinois until joining the United States Navy; he served 4 years, including one year in Vietnam as an Operating Room Technician attached to the 1st Marine Division Hospital in Da Nand and the 3rd Marine Division Hospital in Dong Ha; he also served at sea aboard the USS Valley Forge and the USS Tripoli; and

WHEREAS, Following his time in the service, Eric Nefstead received his Bachelor of Science in Geography from Northern Illinois University; he focused on meteorology and climatology and worked as a broadcast meteorologist in North Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois; in 1982, he received the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for Television Broadcasting; and

WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead enjoyed watching thunderstorms develop and learning how weather worked firsthand; he also liked gardening, beekeeping, and public speaking; and

WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead is survived by his son, Tovin "Tom" Nefstead; his sisters, Cathy and Margaet Nefstead; his niece, Michelle Hartman; his nephew, Matthew Nefstead; and good friend, Penelope Blake; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eric Nefstead, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eric Nefstead as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
