SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their support for the principle that the State of Illinois should continue to purchase, whenever possible and to the extent allowable by law, products made in the United States and the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois and its people are continuing their recovery from the Great Recession; those same Illinoisans are the taxpayers that provide the revenue needed to operate essential government services throughout the State; and

WHEREAS, The members of this body continue to work towards spurring job creation and growing our State's economy for all Illinoisans who wish to work; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Jobs Now! program continues to provide jobs to Illinoisans and bring much needed improvement to our State's capital infrastructure, including our roads, bridges, and schools; and

WHEREAS, The State's Enterprise Zone program keeps Illinois competitive by incentivizing job-creation and job-retention through tax credits and taxpayer dollars; and

WHEREAS, Illinois taxpayer dollars should be spent to continue our State's recovery and strengthen the economic well-being of our communities; and

WHEREAS, The total budget for the State of Illinois is about $70 billion; and

WHEREAS, Any State spending should, to the extent possible, include a commitment from the State and its departments and agencies to buy materials, goods, and services that are produced within the United States and the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, A commitment to purchase materials, goods, and services that are produced within the United States and Illinois, to the extent possible, would bolster and assist those Illinoisans who pay taxes to the State by creating greater economic opportunity and growth throughout our State; such a commitment would also likely increase the benefit to our local communities and businesses through local revenue growth and job-creation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge all those who make purchases on behalf of the State of Illinois to buy materials, goods, and services that are made in the United States and the State of Illinois, whenever and wherever possible, for the continued growth and betterment of the State.
