2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Reverend Carl Winfred Lawson, Jr. of |
4 | | Waukegan, who passed away on November 15, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was born on November 18, 1957 |
6 | | in Chicago to Carl Winfred, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Lawson; he |
7 | | graduated from Westinghouse High School and studied at DePaul |
8 | | University and Moody Bible College; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. worked as a corporate |
10 | | Operations Manager for over 25 years and later served in |
11 | | Provider Relations for a healthcare corporation; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was affectionately known as |
13 | | "Speedy", "Uncle Carlie", and the "Northshore Metra Train |
14 | | Pastor"; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was a member of Mount Sinai |
16 | | Institutional Baptist Church in North Chicago for over 22 |
17 | | years; he served as the Director of the Men's Ministry, |
18 | | Director of the Married Couples Ministry, Sunday school |
19 | | teacher, and on the Board of the Christian Education Ministry; |
20 | | he also led the Gospel services at the Great Lakes Naval Base |
21 | | for many years; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. was preceded in death by his |
2 | | parents, and by his brother, Carl Wesley Lawson; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Lawson, Jr. is survived by his wife of 24 |
4 | | years, Pearl; his son, Matthew Carl (Crystal) Lawson, Sr.; his |
5 | | grandchildren, Aubrey Taylor Lawson and Matthew Carl Lawson, |
6 | | Jr.; his Godsons, Marell Hunter and Justus Wilhoit; his |
7 | | sisters, Merle, Shelia, Tonya, and Natasha; his brothers, |
8 | | Martin (Meko) and Terrance; his aunt, Janice Lyons; his |
9 | | mother-in-law, Rosetta Jackson; his father-in-law, A.G. |
10 | | (Merlean) Jackson, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, |
11 | | and special friends; therefore, be it
|
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Reverend Carl Winfred Lawson, Jr., and extend our sincere |
15 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
16 | | him; and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Rev. Lawson, Jr. as an expression of |
19 | | our deepest sympathy.
