2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Arthur J. Pope of Waukegan, who passed |
4 | | away on October 17, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was born on August 19, 1951 in |
6 | | Tallahatchie, Mississippi to Oddie and Cora Pope; he graduated |
7 | | from Waukegan High School, where he played baseball and |
8 | | excelled in wrestling, becoming State champion; he married |
9 | | Carolyn Jean Robinson on May 20, 1978; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Pope worked as a cook at Abbott |
11 | | Laboratories; his passion for cooking spilled over into his |
12 | | home life and he could often be found making meals for his |
13 | | family; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was a member of First Corinthian |
15 | | Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago, where he served as |
16 | | a Senior Pastor for several years; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Pope was preceded in death by his parents; |
18 | | his sister, Doris Carter; his 4 brothers; and his lifelong |
19 | | friend, Sonny Harris; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Pope is survived by his wife of 35 years, |

12 | | Harris and Shannon Jordan; his Godchildren, Timothy Donaby, and |
13 | | Josiah and Charlie Bouie and their mother, Deanna Bouie; a host |
14 | | of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; his Pope's Florist |
15 | | employee family; and his dog, Rambo; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Arthur J. Pope, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
20 | | further

21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
22 | | presented to the family of Arthur Pope as an expression of our |
23 | | deepest sympathy.
