SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Alden Eugene Orput of Burr Ridge, who
4passed away on November 15, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alden Orput was born on August 18, 1931 to Raymond
6and Hilah (nee Greer) Orput in Rockford; he graduated from
7Rockford East High School and attended Principia College; he
8graduated with a degree in Architecture and Engineering from
9the University of Illinois in 1955, where he was a member of
10the Gargoyle Honorary Architectural Society, the Alpha Rho Chi
11Architecture Fraternity, Harvard Business School's Owners
12Presidents Program, and was an Alleton Scholar for Architecture
13History; he served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant with United
14States Army Corps of Engineers, stationed in Murnau, Germany
15from 1955-57; he married Joanne Adamson; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Alden Orput returned from the service and joined
17the family business, Raymond A. Orput & Associates, Architects,
18Engineers, and Planners in Rockford in 1957 and worked for them
19for 25 years; he helped build the firm into a multi-state
20organization that, at one time, was one of the 500 largest
21professional firms in the United States; over the years, his
22firm received numerous design awards and 6 national awards from
23the American Association of School Administrators; he served as

1Vice President of the Illinois Chapter of the American
2Institute of Architects and as President of the Northern
3Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Alden Orput was very active in the Rockford Park
5District and was an elected commissioner; he was the catalyst
6for the River Walk development, expanded the park district
7lands, and worked to help build the Riverview Ice House; he had
8a zest for life and loved being outdoors; he visited numerous
9national parks and many European countries; he trekked through
10the Himalayas and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro on his 70th birthday;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Alden Orput was a member of The Union League Club
13of Chicago, the Foundation for the University of Illinois,
14Southwest Blue Book, the Ellings Park-Santa Barbara Board of
15Directors, and the Foundation Board for Santa Barbara City
16College; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Alden Orput was preceded in death by his brother,
18Douglas; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Alden Orput is survived by his wife of 58 years,
20Joanne; his children, Jeffrey (Deb) Orput, Kimberly Orput
21(S.L.) van der Zanden, Deanne Orput (John) Parker, and Gregory
22(Cristen) Orput; his 10 grandchildren; his great-grandchild;

1his sister-in-law, Gail; and his brother-in-law, Ronald (Alta
2Jo) Adamson; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Alden Eugene Orput, and extend our sincere condolences to his
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Alden Orput as an expression of our deepest
10sympathy.
