SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alden Eugene Orput of Burr Ridge, who passed away on November 15, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Alden Orput was born on August 18, 1931 to Raymond and Hilah (nee Greer) Orput in Rockford; he graduated from Rockford East High School and attended Principia College; he graduated with a degree in Architecture and Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1955, where he was a member of the Gargoyle Honorary Architectural Society, the Alpha Rho Chi Architecture Fraternity, Harvard Business School's Owners Presidents Program, and was an Alleton Scholar for Architecture History; he served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant with United States Army Corps of Engineers, stationed in Murnau, Germany from 1955-57; he married Joanne Adamson; and

WHEREAS, Alden Orput returned from the service and joined the family business, Raymond A. Orput & Associates, Architects, Engineers, and Planners in Rockford in 1957 and worked for them for 25 years; he helped build the firm into a multi-state organization that, at one time, was one of the 500 largest professional firms in the United States; over the years, his firm received numerous design awards and 6 national awards from the American Association of School Administrators; he served as Vice President of the Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and as President of the Northern Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects; and

WHEREAS, Alden Orput was very active in the Rockford Park District and was an elected commissioner; he was the catalyst for the River Walk development, expanded the park district lands, and worked to help build the Riverview Ice House; he had a zest for life and loved being outdoors; he visited numerous national parks and many European countries; he trekked through the Himalayas and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro on his 70th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Alden Orput was a member of The Union League Club of Chicago, the Foundation for the University of Illinois, Southwest Blue Book, the Ellings Park-Santa Barbara Board of Directors, and the Foundation Board for Santa Barbara City College; and

WHEREAS, Alden Orput was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas; and

WHEREAS, Alden Orput is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne; his children, Jeffrey (Deb) Orput, Kimberly Orput (S.L.) van der Zanden, Deanne Orput (John) Parker, and Gregory (Cristen) Orput; his 10 grandchildren; his great-grandchild; his sister-in-law, Gail; and his brother-in-law, Ronald (Alta Jo) Adamson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alden Eugene Orput, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Alden Orput as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
