| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Marie Ann Vos of Crystal Lake, who passed |
| 4 | | away on January 13, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marie Vos was born on December 18, 1938 in |
| 6 | | Manhattan, Kansas to Olaf and Lois Heiberg; she graduated from |
| 7 | | Worthington High School, where she played the flute in the |
| 8 | | band; she studied zoology and music at Carleton College in |
| 9 | | Northfield, Minnesota and earned her master's degree in music |
| 10 | | education and her doctoral degree in musicology from Washington |
| 11 | | University in St. Louis, Missouri; during her dissertation |
| 12 | | research on Johann Christian Bach, she uncovered a forgotten |
| 13 | | work, Bach's Gloria in D. Major; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Marie Vos was a longtime music educator; in 1968 |
| 15 | | she took a teaching position at McHenry County College and in |
| 16 | | 1980 formed the McHenry County Youth Orchestra; in 1986 she |
| 17 | | established an associated community music school that grew into |
| 18 | | the McHenry County Music Center, which she led as the executive |
| 19 | | director; she retired in 2005; after retirement she led the |
| 20 | | Illinois Council of Orchestras, serving as board president and |
| 21 | | then executive director until 2010; she also taught private |
| 22 | | studio voice lessons and musicianship classes; and
