SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Kathryn "Tinker" (nee Kaut) Harvey of 
4Lincolnwood, who passed away on December 10, 2013; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Kathryn Harvey was born in 1924 in Downers Grove; 
6she attended The Avery Coonley School in Downers Grove and 
7graduated from Downers Grove High School; she attended the 
8Goodman School of Drama in Chicago and married Robert Harvey in 
91955; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Kathryn Harvey worked as a travel agent, retiring 
11a decade ago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, For over 5 decades, Kathryn Harvey was a force for 
13the Democratic Party in the traditionally Republican 
14stronghold of DuPage County; she stood up for numerous issues 
15including women's rights, the environment, and fair housing; 
16her introduction to political campaigns came in 1956 when she 
17worked for the Democratic presidential candidate, Illinois 
18Governor Adlai Stevenson, II; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Kathryn Harvey was the longtime chairman of the 
20Democratic Party of DuPage, and twice, in 1996, and 2000, a 
21member of the United States Electoral College; she was a

1delegate and alternate delegate to 5 Democratic National 
2Conventions, beginning in 1976; for over 40 years, she was a 
3precinct committeewoman in Downers Grove; she was a founding 
4member of the board of directors for Illinois Democratic Women 
5and saw voter registration as critical for party-building; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Kathryn Harvey was preceded in death by her 
7husband, Robert; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Kathryn Harvey is survived by her sons, Matthew 
9(Susan Condon) Harvey and Miles (Rengin Altay) Harvey; her 2 
10grandchildren; and countless friends; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
13Kathryn "Tinker" Harvey, and extend our sincere condolences to 
14her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it 
15further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the family of Kathryn Harvey as an expression of 
18our deepest sympathy.
