| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Arnold David Goodman of Waukegan, who |
| 4 | | passed away on March 12, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was born in Waukegan to Edes and |
| 6 | | Abraham Goodman; he graduated from Waukegan High School and |
| 7 | | served in the United States Navy during World War II; he used |
| 8 | | his GI Bill to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Business from the |
| 9 | | University of Illinois; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Upon returning to Waukegan, Arnold Goodman began a |
| 11 | | career in sales; in 1953, he started Arnold's Work and Sport, a |
| 12 | | small army-navy surplus store; eventually known as "Arnold's", |
| 13 | | his business became one of the most well-known and |
| 14 | | highly-respected retailers in the Chicagoland area for 43 |
| 15 | | years; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman belonged to the Congregation Am |
| 17 | | Echod synagogue all his life and was an avid supporter, |
| 18 | | volunteer, trustee, and fundraiser; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was preceded in death by his sister |
| 20 | | and brother-in-law, Anna and Melvin Gaist; and
