| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Ulice "Uke" Strickland of Chicago, who |
| 4 | | passed away on April 27, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was born in Greenville, |
| 6 | | Mississippi on December 2, 1927 to Theodore Strickland and |
| 7 | | Odessa Walker; he moved to Chicago and attended Medill Grammar |
| 8 | | and High School; he married Florence Kelly on April 8, 1951; |
| 9 | | and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland worked at Fulton Markets and then |
| 11 | | the Chicago Housing Authority; he eventually began working for |
| 12 | | the Chicago Police Department and spent 29 years with the |
| 13 | | Department in the Traffic Division; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran |
| 15 | | Church starting in June of 1966, and then First Immanuel |
| 16 | | Lutheran in 1997; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was preceded in death by his |
| 18 | | parents; sisters, Theal Colbert and Lauvarge Black; and |
| 19 | | brother, Willie (Roberta) Strickland; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland is survived by his daughter, |
