SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ulice "Uke" Strickland of Chicago, who
4passed away on April 27, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was born in Greenville,
6Mississippi on December 2, 1927 to Theodore Strickland and
7Odessa Walker; he moved to Chicago and attended Medill Grammar
8and High School; he married Florence Kelly on April 8, 1951;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland worked at Fulton Markets and then
11the Chicago Housing Authority; he eventually began working for
12the Chicago Police Department and spent 29 years with the
13Department in the Traffic Division; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran
15Church starting in June of 1966, and then First Immanuel
16Lutheran in 1997; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was preceded in death by his
18parents; sisters, Theal Colbert and Lauvarge Black; and
19brother, Willie (Roberta) Strickland; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland is survived by his daughter,

1Elaine; son, Eric (Diahann); brothers-in-law, James Worsham
2and Dennis Kelly; grandchildren, Eric Matthew, Mark Terry, Eric
3Dane, and Nicole Monet; great-grandchild, Anthony Dane;
4numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a
5host of other relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Ulice "Uke" Strickland, and extend our sincere condolences to
9his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Ulice Strickland as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
