SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of James Edward Butler of Waukegan, who 
4passed away on May 2, 2014; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, James Butler was born in Jefferson County, Georgia 
6on May 10, 1935 to Julia Mae (nee Thompson) Davis; upon the 
7passing of his mother and step-father, Walter Davis, he was 
8adopted by Roland and Helen Butler; he attended New Brighton 
9High School, and, in 1954, he joined the United States Navy and 
10was stationed on the destroyer USS Clarence K. Bronson DD-668; 
11he received the Navy Occupation Service Medal "E" Clasp, the 
12Good Conduct Medal, and was given an  Honorable Discharge in 
131958; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, James Butler moved to North Chicago in 1971 and 
15was employed at International Harvester in Libertyville; he 
16also worked as a carpenter and remodeled many homes in Lake 
17County; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, James Butler enjoyed fishing, playing cards with 
19friends, and spending time with his family; he traveled 
20extensively throughout the United States; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, James Butler was preceded in death by his mother;

1stepfather; adoptive parents; wife, Evelyn Bray Butler; 
2step-daughter, Sonia Pherris Webb; long-time friend and 
3companion, Viola Truitt Jackson; and his aunt, Annie Jessie 
4Thompson Turner; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, James Butler is survived by his step-sons, LaMonte 
6Bray and Muricle Bray; cousins, Eula Rodgers, Isaiah 
7(Constella) Turner, Susie Fisher, and Samuel (Marsha) Turner; 
8and a host of other relatives and dear friends; therefore, be 
9it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
12James Edward Butler, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
14further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the family of James Butler as an expression of our 
17deepest sympathy.
