SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Duane W. Strunk of Champaign, who passed away on May 23, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was born on August 21, 1939 to William C. and Ruth (nee Wasner) Strunk; he served in the United States Army, attended Bradley University in Peoria, and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in agriculture economics; he married Nancy L. Smith on April 25, 1964; and

WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was an Illinois licensed general appraiser, farm manager, rural appraiser, and real estate managing broker; he began his career at Commercial National Bank in Peoria and moved to the Champaign National Bank Farm Department in 1976 as department head; in 1985, he opened Strunk & Assoc., Inc., specializing in farm real estate; and

WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was a loyal Illini; he enjoyed all sports, especially women's basketball, and meeting young students; he was an alumnus of the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences; he served on the College of Agriculture Board of Directors for over 15 years and on the University of Illinois General Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was an active member of the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, earning the Accredited Farm Manager and Accredited Rural Appraiser designations; he was also an active member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau and past board of directors member, a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau Equine Grits committee, a 4-H Leader, a member of the University of Illinois Extension State Advisory Council, and a Kiwanis Club of Champaign-Urbana member for over 35 years; and

WHEREAS, Duane Strunk was a graduate of the first class of Illinois Ag Leadership (1984); he was a national Pony of the Americas Club member, serving on various committees, and was an owner and breeder of Illini Pony of the Americas; and

WHEREAS, Duane Strunk is survived by his wife, Nancy Smith; he is the proud parent of Derek (Kami) Strunk, Nicole (Doug) Webel, Dawn Strunk Reesman, and Colleen (Karl) Scherer; the proud grandfather of Blake, Cole, and Ashley Webel, Jacob, Lindsey, Nicholas, and Lucas Scherer, and Taryn, Danielle, and Dane Strunk; he is also survived by his brother, Eugene (Gene) and Joyce Strunk; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Duane W. Strunk, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Duane Strunk as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
