SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Julian "Jerry" Daggett of Chicago, who 
4passed away on January 31, 2014; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Julian Daggett was born in Merriweather, South 
6Carolina on January 1, 1926 to Julian and Lillie Mae Daggett; 
7he attended Chicago Public Schools and Crane Junior College 
8(now Malcolm X College); he served his country in the United 
9States Army at the end of World War II and married Illinois 
10Causey on January 19, 1946; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Julian Daggett returned home after his service and 
12became part of the first class of African-Americans to graduate 
13from the Chicago Police Academy; during the 1960s and 1970s, as 
14Chicago was in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement, he took 
15a strong stance against the discriminatory practices of the 
16Chicago Police Department and became one of the original 
17members of The Afro-American Patrolman's League; and
  
 
  
18    WHEREAS, Julian Daggett was preceded in death by his wife 
19of 60 years, Illinois Causey; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Julian Daggett is survived by his children, Julian 
21Daggett, Jr., Dorothy Sharon (Albert) Grant, Karen Walker,

1Gregory (Stephanie) Daggett, Reginald Daggett, Antonio (Veda) 
2Daggett, Illa (Marvin) Doss, Danielle (Collin) Ferguson, 
3Nicole Daggett, Henry (Laura) Jones, and Jerome Jones; 
4sister-in-law, Florida Dixon; brother-in-law,  Henry Causey; 32 
5grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and an abundance of 
6relatives and friends; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
9Julian "Jerry" Daggett, and extend our sincere condolences to 
10his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
11further
  
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13presented to the family of Julian Daggett as an expression of 
14our deepest sympathy.
