2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Richard A. "Dick" Schwebel of Peoria, who |
4 | | passed away on July 15, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dick Schwebel was born in Vandalia on October 14, |
6 | | 1942 to Raymond and Minnie (Van Cloostere) Schwebel; he |
7 | | received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Business |
8 | | Administration from Bradley University in Peoria; he married |
9 | | Marjorie A. Hoffer on June 1, 1963 at Blessed Sacrament Parish |
10 | | in Morton; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Dick Schwebel began his career at Wabco (now |
12 | | Komatsu) and Caterpillar in Peoria; he served in senior |
13 | | executive positions at J.I. Case in Racine, Wisconsin and at |
14 | | the Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas; he was Chief |
15 | | Executive Officer at Bomag and Compaction America in |
16 | | Springfield, Ohio and at Cedarapids, Inc. in Cedar Rapids, |
17 | | Iowa; in semi-retirement, he consulted for Paladin, where he |
18 | | worked on important war projects in the Middle East; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Dick Schwebel was known as "Mr. Marketing" in the |
20 | | construction equipment field; he developed programs emulated |
21 | | industry-wide; he was instrumental in creating the |
22 | | Construction Industry Manufacturers Association, which |
|

1 | | produces the largest trade show in America, and served as an |
2 | | officer on its Board; he developed the J.I. Case Excavator |
3 | | Rodeo and created the Cessna Hangar 10 shops, capturing |
4 | | America's fascination with flying; he served on the American |
5 | | Road and Transportation Builders Association Board of |
6 | | Directors, where he focused on the nationwide high-speed rail |
7 | | initiative; he also served on the Board of the National |
8 | | Automotive Parts Association; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Dick Schwebel was highly involved in civic |
10 | | organizations, including the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, which |
11 | | he co-founded at Bradley University; the Newman Club at Bradley |
12 | | University, which he served as President; the Father Raho |
13 | | Council Knights of Columbus, which he co-founded in Morton; the |
14 | | West Racine Kiwanis, which he co-founded in Racine, Wisconsin; |
15 | | Marty's Men's Retreat at the Siena Center, which he co-founded |
16 | | with Fr. Martin Pable in Racine, Wisconsin; the Chamber of |
17 | | Commerce Board of Directors in Springfield, Ohio; the Junior |
18 | | Achievement Board of Directors and originator of the Hall of |
19 | | Fame in Springfield, Ohio; he served as a commissioner on the |
20 | | City of Peoria Heart of Peoria Commission, as a commissioner on |
21 | | the City of Peoria Planning Commission, and as a board member |
22 | | of the Peoria Historical Society; he was a member of the |
23 | | Greater Peoria Rose Society, Caper's Club, and the Moss-Bradley |
24 | | Residential Association; he served on the Board of Directors of |
25 | | Children's Oncology Services, Inc. in Chicago, which sends more |

1 | | than 400 children with cancer to camp each summer at Lake |
2 | | Geneva, Wisconsin and to which the Jeffrey A. Schwebel Memorial |
3 | | Foundation is a major contributor; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Dick Schwebel was never too busy to serve as a |
5 | | leader of the Cub Scouts or Indian Guides, sponsor an immigrant |
6 | | for citizenship, or assist with Mass at his parish; in 2009, he |
7 | | was the recipient of a mayoral proclamation from Mayor Jim |
8 | | Ardis for his outstanding service to his community; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Dick Schwebel was preceded in death by his |
10 | | parents, and by one son, Jeffery A. Schwebel; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Dick Schwebel is survived by his wife, Marjorie; |
12 | | their children, Todd Schwebel, Monica Orr, Scott (Alexis) |
13 | | Schwebel, and Brian Schwebel; his 6 grandchildren, Sean and |
14 | | Caroline Orr, Noah and Cole Schwebel, and August and Colette |
15 | | Schwebel; and one brother, Raymond J. Schwebel; therefore, be |
16 | | it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Richard A. "Dick" Schwebel, and extend our sincere condolences |
20 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
21 | | it further
