| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Betty Jean Jackson of Chicago, who passed |
| 4 | | away on July 9, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty Jackson was born in Jacksonville, Florida on |
| 6 | | July 28, 1944 to LeRoy Jackson and Aretha Mallory; at the age |
| 7 | | of 12, she moved to Maywood with her mother and step-father, |
| 8 | | Clarence Mallory, Sr.; she attended Washington Elementary |
| 9 | | School in Maywood and graduated from McKinley Elementary School |
| 10 | | in Chicago; she also attended Richard T. Crane Medical |
| 11 | | Preparatory High School; she married Edward Jackson in 1981; |
| 12 | | and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Betty Jackson was a life-long learner; she became |
| 14 | | a certified semi-truck driver, earned her CDL license, and went |
| 15 | | on to drive for the Chicago Transit Authority; she became a |
| 16 | | state-licensed Cosmetologist at Debbie's School of Beauty |
| 17 | | Culture in Chicago, where she graduated with high honors; she |
| 18 | | earned her Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice from |
| 19 | | Triton College in River Grove; she studied at Edward Waters |
| 20 | | College in Jacksonville, Florida, the University of North |
| 21 | | Florida, and Chicago State University, from which she graduated |
| 22 | | with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice; she |
| 23 | | became a permanent substitute teacher for Illinois School |

| 1 | | District 89 for more than 15 years; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Betty Jackson's 2 favorite activities were |
| 3 | | traveling and dancing; she also enjoyed spending time with |
| 4 | | family and friends; she was a member of Second Baptist Church |
| 5 | | in Maywood and then Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Betty Jackson was preceded in death by her |
| 8 | | parents; her step-father; and her husband, Edward; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Betty Jackson's greatest accomplishments were her |
| 10 | | children, Sharon Jones, Gale (Dennis) Taylor, Darren Jones, |
| 11 | | Sr., Tammi Jordan, Danielle Randolph, Keith Jackson, Chris |
| 12 | | Jackson, and Tobias Jackson, and her eldest granddaughter, |
| 13 | | Shanae Jones, who she raised; she was a proud big sister to her |
| 14 | | brothers, Reverend Dr. Charles (Cydia) Koen, Clarence |
| 15 | | (Charlotte) Mallory, Jr., and sisters, Linda (Joe) Brown, and |
| 16 | | Sandra Mallory; she was also proud of her "little |
| 17 | | sister"/cousin Rosa Thomas and her extended family, the Davis |
| 18 | | Family; she leaves her love and legacy to carry on through her |
| 19 | | many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, |
| 20 | | Godchildren, and a host of relatives and friends; therefore, be |
| 21 | | it

| 22 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |

| 1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 2 | | Betty Jean Jackson, and extend our sincere condolences to her |
| 3 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
| 4 | | further
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 | | presented to the family of Betty Jackson as an expression of |
| 7 | | our deepest sympathy.
