SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Carole A. Michels of rural Elburn, who passed away on August 16, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Carole Michels was born on June 29, 1941 in Aurora; her parents were Roy and Gertrude (nee Kroeger) Brown; she married Jim Michels on December 1, 1962 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Aurora; and

WHEREAS, Carole Michels grew up in Aurora and attended Oak Park Elementary School and East Aurora Junior High School before graduating with the first graduating class of the "new" East Aurora High School in 1959; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Carole Michels began her career as a secretary with IBM in Aurora and developed the skills that served her well throughout her life; after marrying, she moved with her husband to Oklahoma City, where he was stationed as a commissioned officer with the United States Public Health Service; they were later transferred to Henryetta, Oklahoma before moving to New Brighton, Minnesota; after moving to Norman, Oklahoma in 1968, they returned "home" in 1969 to reside in Blackberry Township; in 1974, she resumed her secretarial skills as the secretary of the newly-formed consulting engineering firm Engineering Enterprises, Inc. in Elburn; she then became active in the Elburn Business Council and, in 1982, became a realtor with Leuer Realty, where she was a "top producer" for most of her 30-year career; and

WHEREAS, Carole Michels was an active member of St. Gall Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and in many other positions; and

WHEREAS, Carole Michels was a member and president of the Greater Aurora Association of Realtors and the Fox Valley Board of Realtors and held several leadership positions with both boards; she was a charter member of the Kane County Tourism Association and a member of the Kaneland Foundation and the Waubonsee Community College Foundation; she served as a precinct committee person for Blackberry Township for many years; she was one of the 7 founders of Kaneland Community Bank (now American Bank and Trust) in Elburn; she was also the Corporate Secretary Emeritus of Engineering Enterprises, Inc. in Sugar Grove; and

WHEREAS, Carole Michels enjoyed life, entertaining family and friends by cooking and baking, traveling with her family and friends, and vacationing at Powers Lake, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Carole Michels was preceded in death by her parents; 2 grandsons, Geno and Ryan Migliorini; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marie and Ben Michels; her brothers-in-law, Bob, Art, and Bern Michels and Jim McCue, Sr.; and 5 nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Carole Michels is survived by her husband, Jim; 2 sons, Sean (Valerie) Michels and Todd (Jacqui) Michels; a daughter, Denise (Brian) Migliorini; 3 sisters, Jean (Don) White, Joan McCue, and Judy (Jim) Kreitz; 9 grandchildren, Abby, Nick, Maddy, and Sophie Michels, Greycn, Alexa, and Samantha Michels, and Gina and Nico Migliorini; 4 sisters-in-law, Pat, Lil, and Lois Michels and Anna Marie Avram; her brother-in-law, Nello Avram; and 44 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Carole A. Michels; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carole Michels as an expression of our sympathy.
