| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Dearl Morris of Peoria, who passed away |
| 4 | | on September 29, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dearl Morris was born in Grantsburg on December |
| 6 | | 19, 1926 to Roy E. and Minnie V. (nee Nelson) Morris; he served |
| 7 | | in the United States Navy during World War II; he married Norma |
| 8 | | M. Saltsman in Peoria on July 5, 1947; after the passing of his |
| 9 | | first wife, he married Julia G. Smith on September 23, 1989 in |
| 10 | | Chillicothe; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dearl Morris worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 40 |
| 12 | | years, retiring in February of 1985 as the Worldwide |
| 13 | | Foodservice Manager; in recognition of his excellence in the |
| 14 | | foodservice industry, he was awarded the prestigious Silver |
| 15 | | Plate Award from the International Foodservice Manufacturers |
| 16 | | Association on May 22, 1978; he was also a founding member of |
| 17 | | the Heart of Illinois Restaurant Association; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, After retirement, Dearl Morris continued his |
| 19 | | hobby of making homemade chocolates for friends and family; his |
| 20 | | expertise and creativity became known in the Peoria area over |
| 21 | | the years, and in December of 2005 he was featured in a Peoria |
| 22 | | Journal Star article naming him "Peoria's Candyman"; and
